Summary
Microsoft is seeking to reduce data complexity for enterprises by introducing more database options for its Microsoft Fabric strategy.
While Azure SQL is widely used, when it comes to AI, the more influential database platform is CosmosDB, which is the foundation for OpenAI’s ChatGPT.
CosmosDB is also being integrated with Azure AI Foundry to give more direct access for AI to data.
In addition, Microsoft Copilot will be supported in the PowerBI business intelligence platform, while SQL Server 2025 database will be previewed and the DiskANN vector index will be open sourced.
Microsoft Fabric now has more than 21,000 organisations using it as paying customers worldwide, including 70% of the Fortune 500.
