Summary
Clinician and patient dissatisfaction are significant issues for the healthcare industry, leading to inaccessible care and burnout.
To address this, The Ottawa Hospital in Canada adopted Microsoft’s DAX Copilot last year to integrate with the electronic health record (EHR) platform Epic.
The platform records physician-patient conversations via a mobile app, generating draft clinical notes to ease administrative burdens, reduce burnout and improve cognitive load during visits.
Kearns, EVP and CIO of TOH, said the tool saves seven minutes per encounter, resulting in a 70% reduction in clinician-reported burnout and fatigue.
97% of patients also reported a better or equivalent care experience, due to physicians having more time to engage with patients.
In another initiative, the hospital will launch an avatar to support patients with navigating the health system and pre-screening, in an effort to address the healthcare human resource crisis.
