Monopoly Go maker Scopely to acquire Niantic’s games business for $3.5B

US mobile gaming firm Scopely has agreed a deal to acquire Niantic’s gaming arm in a transaction valued at $3.5bn.
As part of the deal, Niantic will spin off its technology division, Niantic Spatial, to focus on AR and maintain its games, including Peridot and Ingress Prime.
Scopely has cited Niantic’s “focus on building and operating incredible live services” and its experience of working with major IP as reasons for the acquisition.
Niantic’s games, including Pokemon Go, Pikmin Bloom and Monster Hunter Now, will be added to Scopely’s portfolio, expanding its player base.
Pokemon Go, Niantic’s biggest game, boasts over 100 million players and has held a top-10 position in the mobile game rankings since its launch in 2016.
