Summary
Pragma, a LA-based firm that offers backend services to game developers, has raised $12.75m in funding, including an investment from gaming giant Square Enix.
The company’s Engine powers numerous live service components of the gaming experience, such as matchmaking, analytics, and monetisation.
Pragma’s services are used by prominent developers including Gardens Interactive, People Can Fly, and Frost Giant Studios.
CEO Eden Chen started the company after working with his co-founder at Riot Games, where they had built the matchmaking system for League of Legends.
Chen claimed that the company is the only developer to offer a “fully customisable backend game engine with a suite of tools” to developers.
The investment from Square Enix will allow Pragma to make further acquisitions and deepen its range of tools and services for game developers.
