OpenAI’s CEO believes its new GPT-5 model is “a significant fraction of the way to something very AGI-like” but without the necessary hardware in place, the firm will need to partner with the likes of Microsoft to realise its ambitions and compete with Google’s powerful Cloud AI.
While the model is more powerful, it also helps highlight society’s readiness (or lack, thereof) to deal with such powerful AI.
From a technical standpoint, AI is arriving faster than anticipated, and organisations need to prepare technically, culturally and socially to be able to absorb the potential risks and gains.
-Society needs to proactively plan for all scenarios and outcomes if we are to realise the potential benefits of AI rather than falling into disruption and suffering the consequences.
