OpenAI launches GPT-5, nano, mini and Pro — not AGI, but capable of generating ‘software-on-demand’

OpenAI has released GPT-5, the latest generation of its popular large language model, nearly 2.5 years after GPT-4.
GPT-5 is being offered in four variants - basic GPT-5, faster GPT-5 Mini, cost-sensitive GPT-5 Nano, and enhanced GPT-5 Pro, the last of which is aimed at the enterprise and research market.
While the new model brings improvements in speed, accuracy, and safety, it isn’t considered artificial general intelligence (AGI) – OpenAI’s ultimate goal – yet.
CEO Sam Altman said GPT-5 is more like talking to a PhD-level expert than a college student, echoing recent reports that the new model is faster and more thorough with responses.
OpenAI is also making GPT-5 available to all tiers of ChatGPT users, including free users, though with undisclosed usage limits.
Developers can access the models through OpenAI’s platform from $1.25 per 1 million input/output tokens.
