Summary

  • The Nintendo Switch 2 is set to launch tomorrow and Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang has posted a celebratory video in which he pays tribute to the machine and its main processor, the T239 chip.
  • Huang reveals that the original Nintendo Switch’s vision came from then CEO Satoru Iwata, who wanted to create a console that was both powerful enough for big games but also small enough to take anywhere, and that Nvidia’s design team poured “everything” into the machine.
  • The new Switch 2’s custom Nvidia processor has an Ampere-based GPU with 1,536 CUDA cores, runs at 1GHz when docked and 561MHz when mobile, and a memory interface of 128-bit LPDDR5.
  • It features ray tracing, high dynamic range, backward compatibility and dedicated AI chips for real-time gameplay.
  • “This chip is a technical marvel. It delivers performance, intelligence and beauty in the palm of your hand,” says Huang.
