Recent polling has demonstrated a decline in American public support for Elon Musk, largely attributed to his association with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) and its work targeting the US administrative state, including attempts to gain access to the IRS, US Treasury payments system and the US Social Security Administration.
53.5% of Americans now have an unfavourable view of Musk, whilst only 39.6% see him favourably.
His detractors cite his attempts to influence the outcome of the most recent US presidential election in favour of Republican candidate Trump, which included paying voters, whilst his support for a conservative Supreme Court candidate in Wisconsin backfired, with more than half of voters in the state disapproving of his intervention and a third stating it made them less likely to vote for the conservative justice.
Consequently, Democrat candidate Susan Crawford won the Wisconsin race by 10 points, preserving the state’s highest court’s 4-3 liberal majority.
