Apple CEO Tim Cook has lost confidence in John Giannandrea, the veteran Apple executive who was put in charge of the company’s AI and Siri initiatives back in 2018, according to Bloomberg.
The report notes that Cook’s lack of confidence resulted from the delayed rollout of AI features for Siri that the CEO was expecting.
As a result, Giannandrea will lose control over the Siri team, with the AI team being split in two; one focused on autonomous systems and the other on mainstream AI.
Mike Rockwell, the head of Apple’s AR/VR vision pros, will take over as the new lead on Siri and AI.
Rockwell’s hardware engineering colleague, Paul Meade, will reportedly take over Rockwell’s former role.
