Summary
TikTok is attempting to improve user safety on its platform by launching several new features designed to protect young users.
The new features include a reminder telling teens to stop using the app at night, with calming music to help them relax; a “Time Away” feature, which allows parents to prevent their children from using the app at certain times and set recurring schedules; and new controls that allow parents to see who their child is interacting with.
The app will also start testing meditation exercises on the existing “wind down” reminders in the future.
The company has also pledged to use machine-learning to stop children under the age of 13 from using the app, in line with its previous commitment to invest $500,000 in digital safety programmes.
