Summary
Google has announced an upgraded version of its voice assistant, currently titled Gemini for Home.
It will be available later in the year on Nest speakers and displays, to control smart devices, play music, set timers and answer questions.
Rollout will begin in October through an early access programme with both free and paid options.
The new assistant has been powered by Google’s AI and will eventually replace Google Assistant, claiming to be more advanced and have a more “natural interaction” with the user.
It is thought Google is playing catch up with Amazon’s Alexa Plus, which already resides in millions of households.
It is likely Google will release new Nest hardware to run alongside Gemini for Home.
