The Trump administration has launched its own TikTok account, breaking its own deadline to ban the social media app in the US.
The @WhiteHouse account published its first video on Tuesday, celebrating Trump’s achievements.
Although Trump tried to ban TikTok in 2020, he failed to do so and softened his stance during his re-election campaign after his team saw his level of support on the platform.
The Trump campaign launched its own account in 2024, @TeamTrump, and eclipsed the followers and views of former Vice President Kamala Harris’ campaign account.
The White House’s move to join TikTok may be an attempt to maintain the president’s strong support on the platform and reach young voters in future elections.
