Apple will let you play video in CarPlay with iOS 26

Summary
An upcoming update to Apple’s iOS 26 will allow users to view videos on their CarPlay whilst the vehicle is parked, instead of solely being usable for navigation purposes when driving, as is the case currently.
This hopefully signals a milestone in Apple’s relationship with car manufacturers, many of whom have been urging Apple to allow third-party services to be available on CarPlay, as reported in previous coverage.
Apple has invited car manufacturers to collaborate on this update, with a spokesperson stating that ” automakers will need to add support for CarPlay with AirPlay video, so it won’t be available to everyone right away”
Currently, the only manufacturer to throw its support behind Apple’s latest CarPlay Ultra is Aston Martin.
It is unclear whether car manufacturers will be able to incorporate video viewing on existing vehicles using older versions of iOS.
