Summary
A software update lowering battery performance and charging speed will be issued for some Pixel 6A phones to reduce the risk of overheating, according to Google’s Alex Moriconi.
Two incidences of the phone bursting into flames have been reported, with one user claiming their device “spontaneously combusted” overnight.
Code strings in the Android 16 QPR1 Beta 2 release have also alerted users to potential battery issues.
Google recently announced an extended repair programme for battery swelling problems with the Pixel 7A.
More info will be given to customers affected by the update next month, enabling them to tackle the issue, says Moriconi.
