Google is offering employee buyouts in Search and other orgs

Summary
Google has begun offering buyout packages, also known as voluntary exit programmes, to employees in its search division, as well as workers in marketing, research and core engineering units, according to reports.
However, employees in other divisions, including DeepMind, Google Cloud and YouTube, will not be offered the packages, which come as the company faces increased competition and slowing advertising sales.
It is currently unclear whether further layoffs will follow.
Employees living within 50 miles of a Google office will be expected to work onsite three days a week from September or be let go.
The search giant is also increasing its outreach to competing talent, with chief executive Sundar Pichai telling employees that the company would be “more intentional” in its efforts.
Pichai’s remarks came as Google announced a rebranding of its holding company, Alphabet, to Google.
