Summary
Following the announcement of Liquid Glass for all its devices at WWDC 2025, The Verge’s article states that the concept is to make app icons, tab bars and text magnifiers look liquidy and glassy to give the sense they are floating over the background.
However, the initial implementation in iOS 26 has changed app designs so that they look transparent and shiny, many of the complaints about this are that it makes some things harder to read and more cluttered.
A particular issue is the Control Centre which needs opacity to make it easier to read at a glance.
However, on the positive side, the article states that after a couple of hours with the iOS 26 developer beta, Liquid Glass is growing on the author.
