Vivo’s telephoto extender makes the world’s best phone camera better

Summary
Chinese smartphone brand Vivo has produced a camera phone that can produce impressive zoom capabilities, dwarfing its rivals.
The X200 Ultra smartphone attaches to a 2.35x telephoto extender lens, creating 8.7x optical zoom and a 200mm lens equivalent.
It looks a little strange, but it is a logical step for Vivo which has built its brand around a partnership with Zeiss and a rising reputation for producing premier Android phone camera systems.
It is an excellent camera in its own right, and when the extender lens is added it can take photos and video of a quality that seems improbable for a phone.
There is a slight artificial sheen to some shots and performance drops in low light, but the video capabilities are impressive, with great stabilisation.
The X200 Ultra is a big and heavy phone, and the telephoto lens does not improve its balance or weight.
It comes with a clip-on camera grip, filter ring mounts, wrist and shoulder straps, and the lens, all for CNY1,699 (248)includingthelens,or399 imported from retailers like Giztop.
