Fortnite’s CEO Tim Sweeney has revealed that he expected the app to be off the iOS platform for only a few weeks rather than five years, which was how long it took to resolve the dispute between the two companies.
Since its return to the iOS app store last month, the game has enjoyed huge success, with more than 10m downloads, and Sweeney predicts that all future growth will be primarily on mobile.
The new iOS version includes Epic’s payment system, which offers a 20% discount on V-Bucks, with more players expected to use this option over time.
Currently, 60% of players use Apple’s in-app payment option, and 40% use Epic’s, which offers the discount.
The return of Fortnite to iOS marks “part of everybody’s life” at Epic, according to EVP of Fortnite ecosystem Saxs Persson, who said the doors are now open for daily improvements to the app.
