Summary
Ukraine staged a strike on Russian military airfields using 117 drones, taking out 41 Russian aircraft and making up 34% of Russia’s strategic cruise missiles, say reports.
Within hours, footage from the strike had spread from Ukraine’s federal security agency to a journalist in Ukraine, then onto social media and the world’s press.
The New York Times reported that the strike was designed to cause maximum damage to Russia’s military capabilities as well as showcase Ukraine’s military might.
Ukraine has used social media to great effect during the Russian invasion, with President Zelenskyy amassing a large following on X, where he frequently shares information on the country’s war efforts.
Ukraine has also raised millions and recruited a ‘IT Army’ to defend against cyberattacks.
