A Department of Justice (DOJ) filing for its antitrust lawsuit against Google has revealed a 2024 internal OpenAI strategy document setting out the company’s aspirations to turn its ChatGPT product into “an AI super-assistant that deeply understands you and is your interface to the internet”.
The document also highlights the importance of hardware for AI going forward and states that OpenAI is considering ChatGPT as much as a “companion” as a simple tool.
OpenAI acknowledges, however, that “growth and revenue won’t line up forever” and that competition from other tech firms will be a challenge.
The document also reveals that OpenAI is seeking to make its products ubiquitous, arguing that, in the future, “ChatGPT should help you with all of your life, no matter where you are… At home, it should help answer questions, play music, and suggest recipes. On the go, it should help you get to places, find the best restaurants, or catch up with friends”.
