Apple’s first smart glasses could arrive next year

Apple plans to launch its first pair of smart glasses in 2026, complete with cameras, microphones, and speakers for telephony, music control, directions, and real-time translations, according to a report by Bloomberg.
Features such as augmented reality are thought to still be “years away”, and the rumours come shortly after the acquisition of io, the AI hardware company owned by Apple’s former design chief Jony Ive, by OpenAI was announced.
The smart glasses are rumoured to be similar to the Ray-Ban range by Meta, but with improved manufacturing, whilst Apple has also abandoned its plans for a smartwatch with built-in cameras, according to the report.
Instead, the company is focusing on AirPods with cameras and is also said to be working on a mixed-reality headset ready for release in 2025.
