Xiaomi’s new PU7 spells trouble for Tesla in China

Xiaomi has launched its new, Apple Car-rivalling, electric SUV, the PU7, in China, with the vehicle set to take on the Tesla Model Y, Elon Musk’s company’s bestselling EV.
Lei Jun, Xiaomi’s CEO, has been very explicit in his ambition to overtake the Model Y, posting a size comparison of the two EVs to his Instagram.
The Xiaomi vehicle is promised to have up to 518 miles of range, beating the Model Y, and will be available for reservation in July, with no price specified as of yet.
It has a lot of innovative features, such as NVIDIA Drive AGX Thor computing platform, active air suspension and 800-volt architecture with the capability of fast-charging from 10-80% in just 12 minutes and adding 620 km (385 miles) of charge in 15 minutes.
It has been positioned as a direct competitor to the Tesla Model Y and looks set to attempt to dethrone the EV from its perch as the market leader in China.
