Summary
YouTube has hired former Disney executive Justin Connolly to be its new global head of media and sports, a move which has prompted a lawsuit from Disney.
The lawsuit, which was filed yesterday in California Superior Court, argues that Connolly breached a three-year employment contract which was set to expire in March 2027.
Connolly will be in charge of YouTube’s relationships with the media companies that distribute content on YouTube TV, as well as leading its live sports coverage.
YouTube has seen impressive growth in its live TV streaming service, which now has more than 8 million subscribers and exclusive rights to the NFL Sunday Ticket package.
The new appointment comes as YouTube is set to air an exclusive NFL opening week game for free on 5 September.
