Summary
Internet Archive has launched a YouTube livestream showing the real-time documentation of microfiche and the digitisation process.
Microfiche is a historic method of storing important documents such as court documents and government records.
The Archive’s digitisers feed microfiche cards beneath a high-resolution camera to capture detailed images, which are then stitched together digitally to create up to 100 pages per card that are made text-searchable before being added to the organisation’s public collections.
The livestream runs on a loop from Monday to Friday, 10.30am to 6.30pm EST, and during downtime, users can view archived silent films or historical NASA images in the public domain.
