Nvidia’s RTX 5060 review debacle should be a wake-up call for gamers and reviewers

Summary
Nvidia launched its RTX 5060 graphics card on 19 May, but reviews of the budget GPU started to emerge on 23 May, leading to an unusual situation in which the reviews were published before the product was available to purchase.
Nvidia’s founder, Jensen Huang, caused a storm of controversy at CES back in January when he suggested that in the future, games would generate ‘fake frames’ to make up for any shortfall in frame rates.
Reviews published this week revealed that the 5060 struggles to compete with older, cheaper GPUs from both AMD and Intel, and also reveals that it frequently fails to beat a four-year-old RTX 3060 Ti.
The unusual situation surrounding the appearance of these reviews has led to accusations that Nvidia has withheld review samples until after the sales launch.
Having received widespread criticism for its lack of availability of its products at reasonable prices, Nvidia’s attempt to manipulate the media and consumer opinion in this way may backfire spectacularly.
The Verge suggests that this may bring much-needed competition to Nvidia’s 90% market control.
