Summary
Google has expanded its partnership with Volvo to integrate its AI chatbot, Gemini, into the automotive manufacturer’s entire model range.
The system offers voice assistance with a natural communication style that can be used for language translation, navigation and other assistance, along with answering questions about the vehicle’s user manual.
Volvo’s cars will now serve as a reference hardware platform for Google to develop and test future automotive technologies, with the cars set to receive updates before they are added to the main Android codebase.
Volvo has worked with Google to already include features such as high-def maps, built-in YouTube and voice-controlled HVAC systems, while Polestar, the former performance sub-brand of Volvo, has sold cars with native Android Automotive OS since 2019.
