Summary
After its initial launch in 2024 at Google I/O, Project Astra, Google’s most ambitious AI project, is still in development and is yet to become a consumer product.
Now, Google is teaching its intelligent assistant to proactively assist users without being asked, somewhat akin to Amazon’s Alexa.
The technology is being developed with the end goal of using it in a smartphone setting, with it taking over your phone’s screen and functionality as required.
It can access information from the web and from other Google products, such as a user’s calendar and email, to provide the most efficient and useful assistance.
However, it is emphasised that perfecting this technology will take some time and that user interfaces, privacy issues and more will need to be navigated first.
