Summary

  • Microsoft is integrating artificial intelligence (AI) shortcuts, known as AI actions, into File Explorer for Windows 11.
  • This allows users to right-click on a file to quickly use AI features such as blurring photo backgrounds, removing objects and summarising content from Office files.
  • Four image-related AI actions are currently being tested, including Bing visual search, and the ability to blur background and erase objects directly from Photos.
  • The remove background option is also available in Paint.
  • Microsoft also plans to test AI actions for Office files soon, such as document summarisation and AI-generated lists, available to Microsoft 365 commercial subscribers with a Copilot licence.
  • There will also be some updates to the widgets feature, with a new personalised and engaging feed, including Copilot-curated stories.
  • Power consumption on laptops and tablets will also be reduced with a new power-saving feature that increases efficiency during periods of inactivity.
