Microsoft has confirmed that it will be adding Elon Musk’s Grok AI models, Grok 3 and Grok 3 mini, to its Azure AI Foundry service, with the models to be hosted by and billed directly to Microsoft.
This move could prove controversial given Microsoft’s partnership with OpenAI, and the fact that Grok 3 and Grok 3 mini will join other AI labs’ models on Azure that compete with OpenAI.
This is not the first time Microsoft has been quick to embrace AI labs that compete with its OpenAI partner, having deployed DeepSeek’s R1 with haste earlier in the year.
The move is part of Microsoft’s bid to be seen as the go-to platform for hosting AI models for businesses and app developers.
The chatbot model has recently been in the news for spreading misinformation, including telling users that the claim of white genocide in South Africa is controversial.
