CAR T Therapy Wipes Out Deadly Metastasized Cancer in Mice

Summary
A team of researchers have discovered a protein that is found in higher concentrations on the surface of colorectal cancer cells than healthy cells, CDH17, which could be used as a target for cancer treatments.
They then designed six different versions of CAR T-cell therapies that target this protein and infused them into mice that had colorectal cancer.
Two of the therapies were the most effective, clearing cancer from the liver, but a direct injection into the liver was more effective than through an intravenous injection, although it proved to be more toxic.
This validates the potential for CAR T-cell therapies in targeting solid tumours, and the team are now preparing for clinical trials.
