Ozempic Shaves Three Years Off People’s Biological Age in Study

Summary
A preprint paper suggests that the drug Ozempic reduces people’s biological age, on average by 3.1 years.
Ozempic, the brand name for semiglutide, was originally designed to treat Type 2 diabetes, but has previously been shown to help with weight loss, cardiovascular disease, Alzheimer’s and substance abuse.
In the most recent trial, which involved 108 patients with HIV-associated lipohypertrophy (abnormal fat accumulation associated with accelerated cellular ageing), researchers found that those treated with Ozempic had epigenetic profiles that were on average 3.1 years younger than those who had not received the medication.
The greatest impact was found to be on the inflammatory system and brain, where the clock was turned back by almost five years.
