Anthropic Says AI Needs a Whole Lot More Power—Stat

Anthropic has predicted that the AI industry will consume 50 gigawatts of electrical capacity by 2028, with the US lacking the preparation to build out this much new capacity.
The report recommends allowing data centres to be constructed on federal lands in order to avoid local zoning, as well as expediting environmental impact assessments.
Furthermore, it also suggested that the Department of Energy should partner with private firms to quicken the building of power lines and upgrade transmission networks.
This comes as President Trump announced plans to streamline datacentre and energy project permitting in his AI Action Plan.
