mRNA technology has become a household name since the Covid-19 pandemic, and scientists are now looking at how it can be used to combat other diseases.
However, getting repeated mRNA doses into the body could be a barrier as many people do not like taking injections.
Now, researchers from Harvard’s Brigham and Women’s Hospital have created a capsule that protects mRNA while it travels through the stomach, releasing it into the digestive tract, and they have demonstrated its effectiveness in tests on rats and pigs.
The capsule could be used to deliver mRNA vaccines, as well as mRNA-based treatments for diseases such as cancer and heart failure.
