California Says 66% of Its Power Is Now From Renewable or Zero-Carbon Sources

Summary
California has revealed that 67% of its energy now comes from low carbon or renewable sources, including solar, wind, hydro, geothermal, biomass and nuclear.
This figure was just 41% a decade ago, and in 2023 the state got more than two-thirds of its energy from renewable or zero-carbon sources.
The state wants to build 148,000 megawatts of new renewable projects by 2045, and in 2023 it added 7,000 megawatts of renewable energy capacity to its grid, breaking records set in 2022.
However, the state’s momentum may be slowed by the Biden administration’s increasingly hostile stance towards renewables, despite the climate crisis.
