Shoring up global supply chains with generative AI
1 min read
Summary
Generative AI can be used within supply chains to make them more resilient and predict issues before they arise, according to a report by MIT Technology Review’s Insights.
Disruptions to supply chains in recent years, including Covid-19 and the Suez Canal blockage, have highlighted the issue and shown the pressure points within such supply chains.
As many as 86% of CEOs are now focusing on making their supply chains more resilient, and generative AI can play a significant role.
The technology can be used to simulate events and stress test supply chains, as well as to optimise inventory planning.
Other uses include spotting inequalities in supply chains to mitigate risk and using simulation to reduce costs and aid planning.
However, the report also warned of the potential carbon footprint of AI, citing the emissions generated by individual queries for text, images and videos.
