China has seen an increase in AI agent systems, which can autonomously complete tasks such as answering emails and planning trips, with a number of startups offering these services to foreign markets, rather than domestic ones, due to China’s internet restrictions.
Currently, Chinese developers are trying to make AI agents more useful, with a focus on everyday tasks such as planning a trip, stock comparisons, or school projects.
Manus, Genspark and Flowith are arguably the leading AI agents, utilising a browser-based sandbox that lets users supervise the AI, and using large language models to achieve their tasks.
However, all of these AI agents are focused on the international market, rather than their domestic one, due to the absence of major AI companies such as OpenAI and Anthropic in China.
