Progress in the field of artificial intelligence (AI) means it is now capable of completing high school-level math problems and is increasingly becoming a tool used by mathematicians.
As part of its initiative, DARPA wants to encourage the development of an AI co-author that could break complex, multi-step math problems into more manageable, simpler ones that are easier to understand and consequently quicker to solve.
Though AI is becoming more competent in math, it lacks the creative thinking required for true mathematical insight and is primarily used as a tool to save mathematicians time by pointing them in the right direction.
In addition, while AI is capable of completing routine intelligence work, it also requires human input to interpret its findings.
