Email and VPN provider Proton is to reduce subscription prices by up to 30% for iOS users following a court case involving Apple and Epic Games, which ruled that the tech giant must stop overcharging subscription fees to app developers.
Proton CEO Andy Yen said the ruling “could potentially drop the prices by up to 30 per cent”, and also called for the EU to “force Apple’s hand” to drop its subscription rates.
The change means that subscribing to Proton’s services through the Apple App Store rather than directly through Proton will no longer result in fees being hiked.
The ruling could also have a significant impact on US inflation, according to Yen.
