Summary
Temp files are those created by software, updates or browsing the internet and can often be the cause of a slowing down of the performance of a laptop or PC.
They are generally used by programs to store temporary data when performing a task and can consume a lot of space if not deleted.
Windows has a built in Disk Cleanup tool which can remove temporary files, Windows Update files and thumbnails amongst other things and it won’t delete those files in use by open applications.
It can be set to clean up files on a regular basis using a feature called Storage Sense which can be accessed via the Settings menu.
