One of Android’s Biggest Alternative App Stores Is Shutting Down

Summary
Online retailer Amazon is to shut down its Appstore on Android devices from August 20, 2025, when it will also end its Amazon Coins scheme.
Existing apps on the Amazon Appstore will no longer function and it is not advised to keep them as phone security is at risk.
Amazon device users will still be able to access the Appstore, while alternatives such as F-Droid are available for Android users or they can use the Google Play Store.
The Amazon Appstore had provided a backup to Google Play for app developers who had issues with the platform, as witnessed with the high-profile Epic Games vs Google lawsuit over app store monopolies in the 2020s.
Amazon has been streamlining its apps and services, having recently shut down its Inspire platform and Chime meeting app.
