Microsoft Authenticator Isn't Saving Your Passwords Anymore: Export Them Now
1 min read
Summary
Microsoft Authenticator will discontinue the ability to save passwords on a device from June 2025 and disable the autofill function in July of the same year.
These passwords will not be accessible after August 2025, and any unsaved generated passwords will be deleted.
The warning messages will direct users to export their passwords to a CSV file and recommend they use Microsoft Edge or other password manager apps.
Your saved passwords can still be accessed through Edge’s built-in password manager, but any generated passwords will be lost unless they have been saved.
It is recommended that users do not encrypt the CSV file and delete it after importing their passwords into a new app.
The multi-factor code generator and passkey support will continue to function.
Alternative password managers like Proton Pass, 1Password, or Bitwarden are recommended.
Dedicated password managers are considered more secure than using a browser.
