Summary

  • Android phones are great, but they could benefit from improved privacy settings
  • Seven tips to protect your privacy are:
    • Hide notifications on the lock screen so sensitive information isn’t available to strangers
    • Use app pinning, or guest mode to restrict access to your phone to just one app
    • Turn off the setting which sends diagnostics and usage data to Google, as well as any similar settings offered by individual phone manufacturers
    • Disable ad tracking, which gives advertisers clues about your behaviour and preferences
    • Check your Google account settings, particularly around search history, voice commands, location data and app activity
    • Review app permissions to ensure you’re not unknowingly giving apps access to unnecessary data or functionalities
    • Check which apps use your clipboard to ensure sensitive data you copy isn’t accessed by unwanted parties
