Don’t Let Microsoft Kill Your Windows 10 PC—Do This Instead
2 min read
Summary
The end of service date for Microsoft’s Windows 10 is fast approaching but there are ways for users to keep their PCs for longer.
One option is to continue using Windows 10 with third-party support as some companies such as 0patch have said they will issue security patches after the EoS date.
The downside is this method will cost extra in subscriptions and it’s uncertain how these third parties will handle updates and bug fixes.
Another option is to install Windows 11 even if the PC being used does not meet the required hardware standards-there are workaround for this.
The problem with this is opting out of the hardware requirements means the PC will not be eligible for future Windows updates, rendering it unsafe.
A more viable option is to use Linux as it is lighter than Windows and therefore easier to run on an old PC.
There are a number of distros to choose from, including Ubuntu, Arch Linux and Linux Mint.
Linux has a graphical interface which is customizable and as easy to use as Windows.
Finally, another option is to use the PC as a NAS or multimedia server. This can be easily achieved and setting it up is not difficult.
