How I Maximize My Mobile Hotspot Without Blowing Through My Data Cap

Summary
When using a mobile hotspot, background processes on devices can use a lot of data, so it is a good idea to turn off background data and auto-sync features on connected devices by switching on data-saving mode
On Android devices, this can be done by going to Settings > Network & Internet > Internet, selecting the connected network, then selecting Network usage and choosing Treat as metered
On iOS, go to Settings > Wi-Fi and tap on your connected hotspot, then enable Low Data Mode on the follow-up screen
On Windows, go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi, select the connected network, and then turn on Metered connection
On macOS, navigate to Settings > Wi-Fi, click Details next to the connected hotspot, enable Low Data Mode, and click OK to save
It is also recommended to use Data Saver or Low Data Mode on the hotspot device itself, as well as avoiding video streaming or lowering the quality and only downloading content and updates while on Wi-Fi rather than using a mobile hotspot.
