How to Stop Forced App Updates in the Microsoft Store
1 min read
Summary
In Windows 10 and Windows 11, users can no longer disable automatic updates for the Microsoft Store permanently.
Updates can now only be paused for a short period of time.
There are three ways to block forced updates for Microsoft Store apps:
Disable the Microsoft Store’s Update Scheduler, which is the main trigger for updating apps.
Turn off the Microsoft Store Install Service, which manages both app installs and updates. Disabling it will prevent both updates and installs of new apps.
Use Group Policy Editor to disable app updates, however, this is only available on the Windows Pro edition.
For full control over updates, users can also download apps directly from the developer’s website, as these are usually available without automatic updates.
