Summary

  • Instagram is launching a new feature, Instagram Map, that allows users to opt into sharing their location with their followers and view the locations of those they follow.
  • To view the Instagram Map, tap the DM icon in the top right corner, and then tap See the map; users who want to share their location can do so through the Settings option in the DM tab.
  • Any location-tagged content from posts, Reels, notes, and stories will be viewable on the Map, and posts will disappear within 24 hours.
  • To change or hide specific locations, tap the Settings icon, select Hide places, and use the map to select the location to be hidden; up to three locations can be hidden.
  • To hide a location from specific users, tap the Settings icon, then the three dots, and then Hide from; users can also choose to invite others to share their location by swiping up on the map, accessing the Invite icon, and then requesting specific users.
  • The feature is currently only available in the US, with plans for global rollout in the future.
