OpenAI has controversially removed the previous AI model, GPT-4o, from its discussion platform, ChatGPT, replacing it with the new GPT-5 model.
This sparked a user backlash and a revolt on Reddit with the thread “GPT-5 is Horrible”, which gathered over 2,000 comments.
Now, after a U-turn by the company, GPT-4o has returned to the platform and is the default option for paid ChatGPT users.
OpenAI has increased its rate limits for GPT-5 and added new routing options, and will also make other older models available to its higher-paying users.
However, GPT-4.5 will remain exclusive to Pro subscribers due to the high costs of GPUs.
