Summary

  • A recent poll by the Associated Press and NORC has shown that 60% of American adults have used AI to search for information, with younger Americans leading the way in adoption for brainstorming, work co-ordination and AI companionship.
  • Only 16% of adults have used AI for companionship, but this number rises to 25% for adults under 30.
  • The survey also found that 74% of under 30s use AI for information searching, and 62% use it to brainstorm ideas compared to 20% of over 60s.
  • The study found that generally, Americans are reluctant to use AI in daily work situations, with only around a third using it for writing emails, creating or editing images or for entertainment.
  • The most common use for AI is currently searching the web, however, these figures may be higher as Google’s search page automatically generates AI responses that many may not recognise.
