AI in Wyoming may soon use more electricity than state’s human residents

An AI data centre that would consume more power than all homes in the state combined has been announced in Wyoming by Mayor Patrick Collins.
The centre, a joint venture between Tallgrass and Crusoe, will start at 1.8 gigawatts and scale up to 10 gigawatts of power usage.
It would consume 15.8TWh annually at its initial rate – more than five times the amount of electricity used by every home in Wyoming combined.
At its full capacity, it would consume 87.6TWh of electricity a year, double the amount of power the entire state currently generates.
To avoid overloading the public grid, the project will use its own dedicated renewable resources and gas generation.
Governor Mark Gordon praised the project for its potential to benefit the state’s natural gas industry, and the proposed centre is awaiting state and local approval.
