Summary
OpenAI is reportedly set to release its next-generation AI model, GPT-5, as early as August this year, five months after CEO Sam Altman announced the product roadmap.
OpenAI has yet to confirm a release date, but The Verge reports that Microsoft engineers have been preparing server capacity for the product since May.
GPT-5 is expected to be launched with ‘mini’ and ‘nano’ versions through OpenAI’s API, with the main version combining a large language model and a simulated reasoning model.
In a recent podcast appearance, Altman showed off the technology, stating that the question he asked the AI was ‘perfectly answered’.
When launched, GPT-5 will be the successor to GPT-4, launched in March 2023, and is set to be one of several upgrades to OpenAI’s popular ChatGPT.
